I kind of agree with your comparison. Someone once told me that Malbecs are the wine you drink when you are tired of the same old cabs and merlots.
I would say that IPAs are the beers you choose when you are tired of the Lagers or easy to drink beers. Although , you are correct , leaving it in the glass, it doesn’t become “better”.

Needed something to try out my new wine glasses and the 2017 Justin Cab was in at the local store.

GREAT value. Really enjoying it! Could use some time in bottle but a solid all around cab. 91-92 points.

Thought this would be an interesting wine with the 60% Cab Franc and 40% Merlot blend. It indeed is and this certainly stood out in my view from other Daou wines I've tried. Initially, it was very dark with a muted nose offering mostly black fruits. It opened up (some cellar time needed here) after an hour or so in the decanter and slowly but surely began to sing. It evolved into a more playful and slightly lighter style but I was still surprised how the black undertones dominated. It's big, brash, and needs some time but after a decant of a few hours can be enjoyed now. I would have liked some more complexity in the finish and transitions which for me puts it closer to 92 points rather than 94 points.

    93-95+ points, Jeb Dunnuck

Finally got on the list for Quilceda Creek after I don't know how many years.

    Ordered the 2017:

Penfolds is just sublime. It's what immediately comes to mind when thinking of Aussie wine.

I have yet to try the Grange... it's like a white whale that eludes me.
